Multiple Mississippi volunteer groups came together in Starkville on Saturday to put together care packages for first responders.
The event “Serving those who serve us”, took place on Mississippi State's campus and had members from the Maroon Volunteer Center, Volunteer Starkville, Black Girls Rock of Mississippi, and Youth Service America team up to give back to those who protect the local community.
Volunteers put together more than 300 goody bags to give to local first responders like the Starkville Police Department, Oktibbeha County Sheriff's department, local firefighters and EMTs.
"I think it is a great way to come together as a community. But I also think it is a great way to show our appreciation to the men and women who protect us every day,” said Kathur Gaber, one of the program coordinators.
