JACKSON, Miss (WTVA) A new report from the Mississippi Department of Corrections shows a decrease in violence at state prisons. The new numbers released by the Department of Corrections shows year-to-year statistics at the State Penitentiary at Parchman down 52% over last year's numbers.
The MDOC reports te violence numbers fell despite the continual lockdown brought on by the coronavirus.
Over the past year, Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain says the MDOC implemented a number of prison improvements including meals, medicines and cleanliness.
The report shows violence at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County dropped 23%.
Violence also fell at the South Mississippi Correctional Facility in Leakesville by 8%.
