OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Over 80 veterans living at the State Veterans Home are reuniting with their families this week.
Ray Coleman with Veterans Affairs said this is a part of a three-day event. Coleman said each veteran will be able to spend time with two family members for two hours.
Residents haven’t seen their families in over a year because the facility had three coronavirus outbreaks.
Coleman said employees started planning visitations when the first group of residents got vaccinated. He said 90 percent of the people living at the four veterans homes received the shot.
Coleman added that zero residents have the coronavirus in Oxford, which makes it safe to have the event now.
Employees will break up visitations into three groups to ensure social distancing. The first group met their families on Monday and the last group will have visitors on Friday.
Medical workers will also test family members for the coronavirus before they come inside the building.
