VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) - The town of Verona renamed a road in recognition of the Ledbetter family.
The road previously known as Fourth Street has been renamed Ledbetter Street to honor Erma Ledbetter and her late-husband Preston Ledbetter.
"It is just a way to honor who they are and what they have done for the community," granddaughter Jenia Norris said.
The Ledbetters have lived on the street for more than 70 years.
Alderman Eddie Tucker fondly remembers Preston Ledbetter.
"Appreciate him because of where I am today," Tucker said. "I know it's the grace of God but it's like he placed Preston in my life to help me along."
Norris spoke about the memories she made at her grandparents' home on Ledbetter Street.
"It is history for me coming to Verona every weekend and in the summer," she said. "It was just a fun time; very fond memories growing up here."
Her favorite memories: family reunions.
"Everybody would bring food and it would be just a good time of celebration and good fun."
Erma Ledbetter celebrated her 95th birthday on Friday. Her family will hold a drive-thru birthday party on Saturday to celebrate.
