VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Property owners in Verona could see a decrease in homeowners’ insurance thanks to an improved fire rating.
Verona Fire Chief Kristian Skou said the city recently received its new rating.
The Mississippi State Ratings Bureau evaluates municipalities every few years and issues ratings based on various criteria including firefighter training and response, fire gear, number of hydrants and more.
The rating scale ranges from 10-1 with 1 being the best rating, Skou said.
Verona received a rating of 7 at the time of the city’s last audit in 2016.
This year the city’s rating improved to 6.
The fire chief credits the improvement to various projects and developments such as repairs to the city’s water system and the adoption of the city’s first fire code.
The new rating went into effect on April 6.
Property owners within the city limits are encouraged to contact their insurance companies for further information about possible savings.
