VARDAMAN, Miss. (WTVA) - According to Vardaman Police Chief Kenneth Scott, Jeffrey Townsend is facing three charges in Vardaman. Those charges are domestic violence, simple assault, and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Chief Scott says the victim tried to run over Townsend last Friday and Townsend fired shots at her tires while there were children in the vehicle. He turned himself into police on Monday and surrendered his firearm to authorities.

Chief Scott says the victim's statements have been conflicting and she wants the charges dropped.

According to police, Townsend is being held in the Calhoun County Jail. His court date is set for July 25th at 6 p.m.
