TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - People continue to talk about Tupelo’s first New Year’s Eve celebration.
More than 5,000 people filled downtown Tupelo last week to bring in the new year.
Downtown Main Street officials said it’s the largest crowd they’ve seen in the downtown area.
The event featured music, fireworks, games and local food vendors. Toyota gave away a 2020 Corolla that was built in nearby Blue Springs.
The event pushed beer sales through the roof and many local restaurants reported record sales.
Downtown Main Street Executive Director Debbie Brangenberg said it took a lot of manpower, creativity, and collaboration with the city’s departments.
The total cost of the celebration is to be determined, but Brangenberg said the city has it covered.
While there’s no word yet on next year’s celebration, Brangenberg said she hopes to make it bigger and better.
