A Tupelo woman was shocked to learn she was selected as Mississippi's Parent of the Year representative for the 1st Congressional District.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A Tupelo woman was shocked to learn she was selected as Mississippi's Parent of the Year representative for the 1st Congressional District.

Kim Hopkins has a passion to serve the Tupelo Public School District in any way possible.

"I couldn't believe it," she said. "I had to ask them if they had the right person. I was shocked when they told me about this."

This past spring, she was named Tupelo's Parent of the Year for the third time.

The school district says Hopkins participates in teacher appreciation events, chaperones field trips, volunteers and tutors.

"There's a need for volunteers, and I enjoy giving back," she said.
