TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The City of Tupelo will now only require masks to be worn in city-owned buildings until further notice, Mayor Jason Shelton confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
Mississippi’s state-issued mask mandates will expire at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3.

Businesses will be able to operate at full capacity without state-imposed rules.
However, cities and businesses can still retain local restrictions. For example, the City of Starkville's mask mandate will remain.
Shelton said the city will follow the governor's order.
"Every human life that has enough sense to put on their shoes in the morning knows that the masks are the right thing to do," Shelton said. "So hopefully our businesses, hopefully our citizens hopefully will continue to wear masks."
