TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A Tupelo elementary school was placed on partial lockdown as law enforcement searched for a person.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says his department was in the Joyner Street area sometime near 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers were attempting to locate a person on orders from chancery court.
Johnson says officers attempted to locate the person at a house but were unsuccessful.
“We received information that is particular individual was in the cemetery located on Joyner Street,” Johnson stated.
The information stated the person was dressed in camouflage clothing with a firearm.
As a result, Joyner Elementary was placed on lockdown. That lockdown was later lifted.
“At no time was the subject seen or spotted on the school campus,” Johnson stressed.
He says officers searched the area and were unable to locate the person.
Johnson says the person’s name or photo cannot be released at this time due to protective laws.
“However, the safety of the general public is my main concern,” Johnson stated. “If you see anyone in the Joyner Street area wearing
camouflage, displaying a weapon, please contact your local authorities.”
