TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Police charged a man with kidnapping following a morning standoff and hostage situation in Tupelo.
Tupelo Police responded Wednesday morning at a home on Van Buren Avenue at approximately 6:30.

Police officers communicated with the suspect, Henry Doss Jr, who is accused of holding two women against their will there.
According to Tupelo Police, Doss initially refused to come outside to talk with officers. The SWAT team and a negotiated were called to the scene.
Ninety minutes later, Doss released the two women unharmed and surrendered to police. The two hostages stepped out of the home into police custody, along with the suspect. No one was injured during the standoff.

The suspect did not have a weapon on him when he surrendered, Deputy Police Chief Jackie Clayton confirmed.
Tupelo Police charged Doss with felony kidnapping. More charges are pending.
One of the two women involved, who claims she's the suspect's fiancée, said the incident was not a hostage situation.
