TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — A Tupelo police officer is out of the hospital after being dragged by a getaway car carrying a shoplifting suspect.
It happened Sunday around 2:45 p.m. outside of Belk at the Mall at Barnes Crossing.
Police Capt. Chuck McDougald said officers tried talking to the female when she jumped into a newer model Ford Mustang and it took off while an officer tried getting her out of the car.
The car dragged the officer a short distance, and the officer was taken to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
McDougald added multple law enforcement agencies chased the car north of Tupelo but backed off when the speed of the chase got too dangerous.
