TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A judge ordered murder suspect Jacquez Calvert to be held in jail without a bond.
Calvert, 20, appeared before a judge Thursday morning.
In a social media post, Tupelo High School congratulated Dreshawn Williams on his upcoming graduation. Tweeted on May 1, 2020.
Tupelo Police arrested him following the fatal shooting of Dreshawn Williams, 18, Tuesday night in the 400 block of North Broadway Street.
Emergency responders transported Williams to the hospital in Tupelo where he later died.
Police charged Calvert with first-degree murder.
Police have not released further information about the shooting.
“We are learning that the victim in this case was graduating from Tupelo High School this week,” Police Chief Bart Aguirre said. “The tragedy of young people shooting and killing each other continues to take a toll on our community. Earlier this year another young life was ended with a senseless act on Meadow Drive. I am begging our youths to stop using guns to settle arguments.”
