TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo’s city council approved the retirement of a police officer who had previously filed two lawsuits against the city.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the city council allowed Lt. Tiffany Gilleylen to retire and allowed her to keep her service firearm with a $1 purchase.
Gilleylen sued the Tupelo Police Department earlier this year after she was passed over for a promotion to lieutenant.
She claimed the city moved white police officers from other divisions to fill the open position she sought in the department’s patrol division.
A federal judge signed a settlement order and filed it on Sept. 5.
As part of the agreement, Gilleylen was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant.
In 2017, Gilleylen had settled another lawsuit with the city over discrimination claims.
