Social media video from the scene shows a male employee on the ground in the store's parking lot with blood on his face and arms.

Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre says the incident started when the store detected an alleged shoplifter inside the store. The suspect was followed out into the parking lot. The suspect got into a truck, which was driven by another person.

The employee was hit as the truck fled the scene. Aguirre says witnesses at the scene provided officers with descriptions of the suspects and truck.

Aguirre confirms Guntown police detained the suspects a short time after the incident.

Police identify the driver of that truck as Douglas Cooksey, 41.

The store employee is being treated at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
