TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Trustees of the Tupelo Public School District (TPSD) voted Friday to delay the start of school for students until Monday, Aug. 17.
Tupelo students were originally scheduled to start on Aug. 12.
The delay will allow the school district to install all thermal detectors, which were late being shipped, and train staff members.
The school district later released the following statement:
"The Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees, based on the recommendation of superintendent Dr. Rob Picou, voted Friday to delay the start of school for all students until Monday, Aug. 17. We want to make sure we have done everything possible to create a controlled environment for our staff, our students and our families."
