COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Matthew Eller, Troop First Class, has been named State Trooper of the Year.
MHP Troop G and the Columbus Exchange Club celebrated Eller's accomplishments on Thursday.

Eller graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
In 2014, he joined the Mississippi Highway Patrol Cadet Class 61.
His accomplishments in 2018 included leading his department with 118 DUI arrests, making the top five for 13 felony arrests and making the top 10 for 1,295 total violations.
Having several Georgia family members become troopers, Eller said this career path was destined for him.
Eller said starting trooper school was a culture shock.
He also said the celebration with family, friends and colleagues was a refreshing and positive way to combat the negative reputation that law enforcement officers have imposed upon them from the general public.
