RIPLEY, Miss. (WTVA) - Tippah County is building a new hospital, the county Board of Supervisors announced Friday.
Construction on the $22 million hospital is scheduled to begin Monday, April 6.
According to county officials, the Tippah County Hospital Board of Trustees has been working for many years to upgrade the current hospital to meet consumers’ needs.
“We determined that building a new hospital was the least expensive way to get what was needed. However, we needed to find a location on our existing campus to maintain our status as a critical access hospital,” Dr. Patrick Chapman, the hospital's administrator, said.
The new hospital will be built nearby, just south of the current campus. The City of Ripley agreed to relocate Hospital Street to accommodate.
After the new hospital opens, the old hospital will be torn down and a new street will be built in its place from Highway 15 to Martindale Lane as a separate project.
