(WTVA) — The tight race for Yalobusha County sheriff highlights a big day locally for the general election in Mississippi.
Unofficial results from Tuesday show Mark Fulco leading by two votes over Luther Folson.
There's no word if there will be a recount or an election challenge.
No incumbent sheriffs lost in their bid for re-election, but multiple counties elected new sheriffs.
They include Brandon Busby in Choctaw County, Joey East in Lafayette County, Eddie Hawkins in Lowndes County, Jeff Tompkins in Montgomery County and David Gore in Webster County.
Meanwhile, Lee County had issues getting the vote count out.
A vote tabulation issue led to results from each box of ballots being read aloud at the Lee County Justice Center.
It also led to race outcomes being determined later than usual.
Also in Lee County, Saltillo's effort to pass a tourism tax failed.
It needed 60 percent of the vote for passage. The final tally was 514 against and 499 for.
