The armed robbery happened the night of Nov. 25 at the Tobacco Warehouse on Alabama Street, according to Police Chief Fred Shelton.
Richardson allegedly threatened the store’s clerk with a weapon and demanded cash and cigarettes.
Shelton said the clerk did so, but the bag containing the cash and cigarettes was dropped as Richardson left the store. Police later recovered the bag.
Investigators linked Richardson with the Nov. 22 burglary of a gas station. The police chief said the Exxon gas station is located on Main Street.
He said a door’s glass was broken while the station was closed.
Cash, cigarettes and beer were taken from the store.
Video of the burglary linked Richardson to the crime, Shelton said.
“An anonymous tip started us on this investigation,” the police chief said. “We were able to solve two recent cases with it.”
