OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Oxford police now have a suspect in connection to a 2013 sexual assault.
According to the Oxford Police Department, the incident happened on Oct. 20, 2013, by an unknown individual.
A break in the case occurred in late-2020 when investigators learned of a possible DNA match.
This ultimately led investigators to Indiana where they worked with the Indiana Department of Corrections to acquire a new DNA sample.
The testing positively matched Jerry Owens, 44, of Evansville, Indiana, according to Oxford police.
Police arrested Owens for rape on Feb. 24. He is being held in the Lafayette County jail.
