MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WTVA) - MHP Sgt. Gary Stanton will undergo surgery to give a portion of his liver to his life long friend, Sandy Byrd.
Byrd was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma in December of 2019.

On Tuesday, Stanton and Byrd prepare to go into the operation room at a hospital in Memphis.
Doctors will take 59.5% of Stanton's liver and quickly transplant it into Byrd.
Stanton posted a picture of him and Byrd on Facebook early Tuesday morning.
In a caption, he said, "By the end of today, my friend will no longer have cancer. I think that's pretty great. I love you guys."
