WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - Law enforcement officers are trying to eliminate one of the hardest parts of their job by creating a mock wreck scene.
Thursday morning, the Mississippi Highway Patrol's Stop the Knock campaign stopped in Louisville.
The campaign is aimed at stopping the loss of life that could be avoided.
Troopers show students in Winston County their decisions, whether it's driving drunk or distracted driving, affect others.
"They are going to get a real experience, what it looks like at a car crash without having to be involved in one themselves. Hoping it will be an eye opener, hoping a seed will be planted and hoping that seed will grow and it will be safety when they get behind a wheel of cars," said Master Sgt. Criss Turnipseed, with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
This year, 543 people have been killed in car crashes on Mississippi's highways. 51 of those deaths were teens.
