JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — A state inmate serving a life sentence for a murder in Pontotoc County died Monday at a hospital in Jackson.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections said foul play is not suspected in the death of Patricia Wilhite, 68. Still, the state will do an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Wilhite had been at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County since 1998.
It was that year a jury in Monroe County found her guilty in the 1995 killing of Jerry Russell. Her first trial in Pontotoc County ended in a mistrial.
Wilhite became the 22nd state inmate to die since December 29.
