OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Ole Miss will have to wait before it can relocate a Confederate monument.
The State College Board met Thursday morning in Jackson and tabled the university’s resolution to move the monument from a central spot on campus to a nearby on-campus Confederate cemetery.
The College Board is wanting more information from the university.
State archives and history officials approved Ole Miss’ proposal in December to relocate the monument. The relocation still needs approval from the College Board.
The monument's relocation is another way in which the school is distancing itself from Confederate imagery. Similar Confederate monuments are located across the Southeast.
