STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Starkville police charge a young man with several offenses.

According to the Starkville Police Department, officers arrested 18-year-old Javante Hendrix of Starkville on Saturday, May 19.

He's charged with possession of a stolen firearm and providing false information.

The Starkville Daily News reports Hendrix is accused of stealing a shotgun from Walmart Saturday some time before noon, then providing a false identity to police.

The newspaper reports officers spotted Hendrix walking after the theft, which led to a short pursuit, ending with him hiding behind a pillar under the Highway 25 overpass.

Police believe Hendrix dropped the shotgun, which was later recovered.

He's accused of giving police the false name of "Tae Macon," along with a false birthday.
