STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - One person is dead following a shooting in Starkville on Wednesday evening.
Starkville Police Chief Mark Ballard said officers responded to a call at 5 P.M. on Wednesday evening about shots being fired on the corner of Henderson St and Pilcher St.
Ballard said officers arrived on the scene within seconds of receiving the call, but when they got there, one person was already dead.
Two people were involved in the shooting.
Ballard said although they do not have more information at this time, he believes the community needs to come together to put a stop to the violence in the streets.
"We lost someone tonight," he explained. "It's someone's child. It's someone's brother. It could easily be someone else's family member. Again, violence matters and it's everywhere. We've got to do more as a community in addressing gun violence."
Chief Ballard asked if anyone has any information to call Crime Stoppers. The department is willing to pay for cooperation from citizens.
