STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Starkville's mayor and Board of Alderman are requesting to develop golf cart districts within the city limits.
The use of golf carts is not currently a legal alternative mode of transportation for the public streets of Mississippi without special authorization.
In a meeting on Tuesday, the mayor and the Board of Alderman will discuss allowing golf carts street access.
Mayor Lynn Spruill said the access would be convenient for some people to travel around their neighborhood.
"Subdivisions with people in golf carts are doing it now, so I would prefer them to do it a legal way," she said.
She also brought up that it would ease the travel on the campus of Mississippi State Univesity.
"Because we have the college community, there is a lot of golf court usage during gamedays. So, this allows us to continue that and beyond the right side of the law."
This has been done in other communities around the state, so Spruill is hopeful it will pass.
20-20 legislature approval would allow the mayor and Board of Alderman to start designating golf cart districts within the city limits
