TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Before going to get your coronavirus shot, there are a few things you need to know.

The Healthworks building in Tupelo is closed down, but North Mississippi Medical Clinics are using it as a vaccination site.

"If you compare the vaccine to what COVID has done, it's a no-brainer," Family Physician Bonnie Basler of West Tuppelo Medical Clinic said.

She said that on the day of, you can help make the process faster by wearing a short-sleeve shirt.

She wanted to further encourage people to get a coronavirus vaccine.

"It was very smooth," Helen Long of Saltillo said. Long explained she was a nurse at North Mississippi Medical Center for 37 years, and being able to get the vaccine was important to her.

Long explained that people getting their second coronavirus shot have to bring a certain paper.

"They gave a little card that had the information for the second shot, and then emailed it to us, so we needed to bring that with us."

Basler spoke to WTVA at the closed down Healthworks building.

"I won't say we'll turn you away, but you'll want to bring it so we'll have clear documentation," Basler said, explaining it would likely be OK, but more difficult if a person forgets or lost their card

She said even if a person does happen to lose their card, medical staff should still have documentation of the first dose in the state registry system.

Long said if people have a fear of long needles not to worry, gesturing that they are short, painless, and the experience is over quickly.

Anyone 16 and over can get a vaccine now in Mississippi. People who are under 18 need to bring a parent.
