STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA)— Some small business owners in Starkville affected by the coronavirus pandemic are applying for the state grant.
On Wednesday, Governor Tate Reeves announced business owners can apply online for state money.
Businesses must adhere to specific qualifications; like having 50 employees or less and being in good standing with the Secretary of State’s office.
1883 Owner Mark Welch said he applied for the grant as soon as the application portal opened at noon Thursday.
“We were off our feet for a long time. People don’t realize that it takes a lot to run a, even a small operation like what we have here,” said Welch.
He said he plans to use the money to bring more people back and to keep their local employees working.
LA Green owner, Lauren Ann Cooper, said she also applied for the grant Thursday.
She said any amount of grant money will help her business to pull through.
"Right now things are hard. This grant money will be great. Every little bit helps right now. Just with like uncertainty of where we will be next week or next month, I’m just very thankful for that," she said.
