TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Ever since Victoria Colharp was a little girl, the pool has been her happy place.
She competed in swim meets throughout her childhood.
Tupelo Aquatic Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Once she turned 15, she decided to become a lifeguard to make some money and do what she loves.
“Everything just loosens up in the water and you just feel better,” she explained.
Colharp said over the years she drifted away from the pool.
After she retired from her job two years ago, she decided to become a lifeguard again at the Tupelo Aquatic Center.
“It’s just a good, fun, friendly, family-oriented place to come to work and come to swim.”
Colharp makes sure people are safe during swimming lessons and competitions.
She said the center needs 20 more lifeguards to help out this summer.
Potential lifeguards must be 15 years and older to apply.
They also need to have an American Red Cross lifeguard certification.
