The suspect, 17-year-old Randy Johnson of Shannon, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators believe a fight or an argument broke out among several individuals inside a vehicle.
Shack sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Johnson is a virtual student at Nettleton High School.

PALMETTO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened overnight in the Palmetto community.
Sheriff Jim Johnson confirmed his investigators are currently working on the case.
He confirmed the incident happened at approximately 1 a.m on County Road 590 in the Palmetto community.
North Mississippi Medical Center emergency room workers contacted the sheriff's department when a gunshot victim had arrived shortly after the incident happened.
Johnson says multiple people are involved in the case, more than just the shooter and victim.
When deputies arrived at the hospital they questioned several people.
Deputies found multiple bullet casings along County Road 590 and in the car that took the victim to the hospital.
Deputies have recovered the car and the weapon used in the shooting.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green confirmed the identity of the victim as Arlandus Shack, 21.
Shack was out on bond awaiting trial for a 2018 murder in Verona.
A person of interest is in custody.
An autopsy will be performed.
