COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Police believe an argument Thursday night led to shots being fired at the Columbus Courtyard by Marriott on 6th Street North.
Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said the argument began in the hotel’s parking lot where a man fired a gun into the air.
The argument moved inside and involved at least two more individuals.
Witnesses said the man then fired the gun again, striking a water line in the hotel’s ceiling, causing water to spill out into the hallway.
Witnesses said the man left the scene prior to police officers’ arrival.
“No one was struck and no one was hurt in any way,” Shelton said. “We are searching for a suspect and have a good description. The suspect is facing a charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling, a felony. There were shots into the ceiling inside and we know of at least one shot in the parking lot into the air. Witnesses tell us at one time the male suspect and two females were arguing inside the hotel. We believe it started in the parking lot and then moved inside.”
Anyone with information on the incident can call Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.
