LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County Sheriff's Department released a statement on the rumor of a possible hit list at Nettleton School.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson stated his department's school resource officer, assigned to Nettleton schools, was made aware of a possible "hit list" Monday.
The deputy met with Nettleton school officials and a search was done of the student-of-interest.
"We can report that after searches, no list was found, nor any type of weapon," Johnson stated.
The sheriff says the department also visited the residence of the person-of-interest and no list or weapon was found.
"There has never been a list produced, just a rumor of one," the sheriff continued.
Johnson says the student has been charged with disrupting a school setting and appeared in Youth Court on those charges Tuesday.
"I can assure you that the safety and security of our school campuses are a top priority," Johnson finished.
