Sheriff: Lee County inmate attacks officers

A Lee County jail inmate attacked jail officers, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A Lee County jail inmate attacked jail officers, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident happened Saturday as Lee County jail officers conducted a daily count and inspection of jail cells.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, inmate Antonio Gladney attacked jail officers with a homemade knife, cutting one officer. He also kicked and headbutted other officers.

Officers eventually subdued Gladney.

Gladney is awaiting trial for murder. He was arrested in 2017 for the death of his mother, Molly Gladney.

He now faces additional charges of aggravated assault on an officer and two counts of simple assault on an officer.

The sheriff’s department reports all the jail officers were treated for their injuries and have returned to work.
