Grimaldo is now recovering at home.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said Grimaldo spotted a man at a gas station, who was accused of stealing a vehicle.
The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old William Belk.
Police said Belk shot Grimaldo and fled.
He was later caught and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. It’s unclear whether Belk had an attorney.
