TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A Shannon woman faces charges after leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit Thursday afternoon throughout Lee County.
The incident began early Thursday afternoon when deputies responded to a home on County Road 468 near Shannon for a reported disturbance involving Latonya Mayfield, 41, and a hammer.

The person who called 911 claimed Mayfield stole a black Cadillac and left the home traveling toward Shannon.
Law enforcement officers tried to stop the car, but Mayfield failed to stop, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.
The car eventually ran over spike strips deployed by assisting Tupelo police officers at the intersection of Gloster Street and Highway 6.
After the car stopped, a deputy approached the car. Mayfield reportedly wielded a hammer in her hand and yelled at the deputy.
Officers then arrested her.
