OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - The U.S. Senate has confirmed a new chief federal prosecutor for the northern half of Mississippi.
Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker issued a statement Thursday congratulating Chad Lamar of Oxford for becoming the new U.S. attorney.
Lamar has been an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District since 1991. He is currently the chief of the Criminal Division.
Lamar earned degrees from Millsaps College, the University of Mississippi Lamar School of Law and the Boston University School of Law.
The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, Mike Hurst, was confirmed by the Senate in early October.
The prosecutors were nominated by President Donald Trump.
