TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Two Mooreville students were taken to the hospital after being struck by a car Monday morning.
According to Staff Sgt. Bryan McGee of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle incident happened on Highway 178 between Mooreville and Auburn Road in Lee County.
The students were getting on the bus, McGee later confirmed.
The Lee County School District confirmed the bus involved belongs to the school district. Troopers determined the second vehicle involved did not collide with the bus but struck the two children.
An ambulance transported one student to the hospital; the other student was airlifted.
The school district later confirmed both students are girls. One student is 15 years old and attends Mooreville High School. The second student is 11 years old and attends Mooreville Elementary School.
The older student was transported to the hospital in Tupelo. The younger student was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
The girls remain hospitalized, McGee said Monday evening. He described their injuries as non-life-threatening.
