OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Okolona Police Chief Tommie Ivy said scammers are calling or texting from an app asking for bond money for a family member.
This family member may or may not be in jail.
The scammer asks the victim to give money for the family member's bond using a Green Dot card or through Western Union.
The chief said three people in the Okolona area have been victims of this scam and actually paid $300 each.
Ivy said a bail bondsman will never text you asking for money, which is an automatic red flag.
If you believe you are being scammed, you are advised to call your local law enforcement.
