COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lowndes County authorities say they have a person of interest in custody as the investigation into the discovery of a body last night continues.
Sheriff Mike Arledge says an autopsy is expected to be performed today or tomorrow on Jarrell Ward, 24, of Starkville.
Arledge says Ward's body was found last night after they received a 9-1-1 call from someone saying they had found a body on Sand Road.
Ward had been missing for several days.
Arledge says Joshua Murry is currenlty being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center as a person of interest in the case.
He said Murry had charges from an unrelated case but would not specify what those charges may be.
The jail docket says he is being held for contempt of court.
Arledge says they have met with the Columbus and Starkville Police Departments and the District Attorney and evidence collected is being handed over to the Lowndes County sheriff's department.
He would not comment on whether other persons may have been involved in Ward's death, the cause of death or a motive.
Police say they are trying to work through the weekend to find more about the investigation. They hope to release it early next week.
