CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - An investigation into a rumored school threat turns out to be false in Choctaw County.
According to Choctaw County Chief Deputy Lee Upchurch, the sheriff's department received a call on February 16 from a concerned mother about a male student who supposedly had threatened a shooting at Choctaw County High School.
However, following an extensive investigation, the allegations turned out to false.
The investigation revealed a case of bullying against the new student.
"Through investigative measures, we found that students were in fact spreading false rumors on campus that circulated into the community," Upchurch stated.
The chief deputy said he's ashamed of the community's lack of trust in the educational department and law enforcement.
"I'm furthermore concerned with the damage that was done to the student being bullied and outcasted by students and residents due to false allegations."
