STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — Mississippi State hired Mike Leach as its new football coach.
The university confirmed the hiring with a video on the football program's Twitter account.

Also, MSU athletics director John Cohen posted on Twitter a video of a pirate on a ship. Leach has an affinity for pirates.
This is a return to the Southeastern Conference for Leach. He served as offensive coordinator for Kentucky under then-head coach Hal Mumme.
Leach was head coach at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2009. The university fired him after accusations surfaced he mistreated one of his players.
He arrived in Pullman in 2012 and compiled a 55-47 record in eight seasons. The coach's finale at WSU was a 31-21 loss to Air Force in the Cheez-It Bowl, closing out a 6-7 season.
Leach replaces Joe Moorhead, who was fired by Mississippi State after two seasons.
