Reported shooting leaves 28-year-old man dead in Monroe County, 1 arrest made

GREENWOOD SPRINGS, Miss. (WTVA) - A man is dead after a reported shooting in Monroe County, according to Coroner Alan Gurley.

It happened on Splunge Road in the Greenwood Springs area, Gurley said. A family member called 911 just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

When deputies arrived, they found a man dead. The family member was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Gurley identified the deceased as Eddie Hester, 28. The coroner calls the situation a domestic dispute.

Hester's body will be sent to the state medical examiner in Pearl for an autopsy.

Monroe County Interim Sheriff Curtis Knight later confirmed one arrest was made in the case.

Knight said investigators were holding the arrestee, a male, for questioning and he anticpated charges.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's department confirmed 51-year-old James Hester is charged with murder.

Knight confirmed James Hester is the father of Eddie Hester.
