HERNANDO, Miss. (WTVA) - One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in DeSoto County, WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, reports.
The shooting happened near the Marshall County line. Officers said the incident began with a chase and ended with a shooting.
Investigators said a man fired a shot at officers, and officers returned fire and killed the man, WMC-TV reports.
District Attorney John Champion confirmed the death following the incident.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Champion later said John Bott, 76, was shot and killed during the incident. Bott was a veteran and could have had a mental disorder, Champion said.
Seven deputies have been placed on paid leave, The Associated Press reports.
