OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Demolition continues in Okolona as the city works to remove seven vacant homes many consider to be eyesores.
The city deemed many vacant homes and properties unsafe and a health risk, leading to their removal.
Resident Chris Carouthers says the properties made the surrounding neighborhoods look terrible.
“It makes the neighborhoods look bad, I guess when they're tearing them down now...I guess it’s improvement," said Carouthers.
The city hired demolition worker Taylor Dobbs to remove the homes. He said residents expressed excitement about the homes being torn down.
Mayor Sherman Carouthers says the process took several years, but he’s excited to finally see the removal.
