TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The coronavirus pandemic is forcing the armed forces to find new ways to enlist potential recruits.
Recruiters in Tupelo said anyone interested can still serve their country.
“We used to do a lot of face-to-face, and we can’t right now,” Recruiter Joshua McFarland said.
He said to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, recruiters added new safety precautions to the process.
“Now it's more from the virtual prospecting, so the social media side, we get people to call in.”
Applicants only come into the office once they send in their information.
“To come in the office, they get screened for COVID-19,” McFarland said
Everyone inside the office has to wear protective gear during the recruiting process.
If a potential recruit does not feel comfortable coming to the building, recruiters can set up a meeting in a more neutral place, McFarland said
McFarland said he has not seen a decrease in applicants. He is hoping to see more people interested in joining the armed forces.
