Chickasaw County, Miss. (WTVA) - Several school districts have dropped their mandates and made it optional for students to wear masks.
Chickasaw County Schools Superintendent John Ellison said staff will continue to disinfect regularly and enforce social distancing, but will no longer require students to wear masks.
“We monitor our numbers every day,” Ellison explained. “Over the course of several weeks, we saw those numbers decrease substantially.”
Chickasaw County parent Megan Smith is happy with the change. She's glad there is a choice for her children.
“People around here, they would like to make the decision than other people making it for them, saying you have to wear it,” she said. “I think parents like that — they can make that choice.”
Other school districts that recently dropped mask mandates include the public school districts in Tupelo and Corinth.
