OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) – Okolona school officials had to deal with an unexpected issue involving the food service at Okolona Elementary School.

Okolona School District Superintendent Dexter Green says last week, rats were discovered in a building on the campus used as a food pantry.

He says an exterminator was called in and the infestation has been dealt with.

Green says all food in the pantry was thrown away as a safety precaution.

He says the building in question is not connected to the school’s cafeteria.

He says cafeteria workers have been providing regular meal service to the students.
