TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Rangers on the Natchez Trace Parkway want people to avoid using it until Monday or Tuesday of next week at the earliest.
Rangers are dealing with falling trees brought on by the ice and snow this week. Those trees trapped some people at a campground near Port Gibson in the central part of the state.
“We’ve been working to get to the Rocky Springs campground all day today hoping to be able to at least get to them and at least be able to cut a hole enough for them to be able to get out,” District Ranger Stephen Dollinger said Friday.
Dollinger added that volunteer firefighters Thursday rescued some people stuck on the Trace south of Kosciusko.
